Behind the Lens: Getting to Know Your Photographer
Hey there! I thought it was time to pull back the curtain a bit and share more about the person behind SSR Photography.
The Journey to Photography
My love affair with photography didn't start in a traditional way. My journey started as a teenager, who threw everything she had into editing her high school yearbook. That lead me to picking up my first "real" camera, in which I start "Stormland Photography" to help out my friends with their senior portraits. Stormland Photography eventually evolved into SSR Photo, where I still have a driving passion for photographing seniors and graduates. As time went on, photography became more than just a hobby. There's something magical about freezing a split second in time – that laugh, that glance, that perfect light hitting someone's face just right. What started as snapping photos for friends eventually evolved into something deeper. I realized that photography wasn't just about taking pictures; it was about telling stories, preserving emotions, and creating art that speaks to people's hearts and it lit my SOUL on fire.
My Photography Philosophy
Every person has a story worth telling, and every moment has beauty worth capturing. Whether I'm photographing a couple celebrating their love on a hilltop in San Luis Obispo or capturing a family's genuine laughter, I believe in authentic storytelling above all else. I'm not interested in stiff, posed photos that feel forced. Instead, I focus on creating an environment where people can be themselves – where real emotions shine through, where love feels natural, and where every image reflects who you truly are.
What Drives Me
There's nothing quite like the moment when I send clients their gallery. Knowing that I've captured something they'll treasure forever – that their grandchildren might someday look at these photos and feel connected to this moment – that's what gets me up every morning. I'm particularly passionate about celebrating love in all its forms. Everyone deserves to see their love story told beautifully, authentically, and without judgment.
When I'm Not Behind the Camera
When I'm not editing or out on shoots, you'll probably find me loving on my two sons, Asher and Kooper, wake-surfing on Nacimiento, drinking a dirty soda, or re-watching Grey's Anatomy for the 10th time. I believe that experiencing life fully makes me a better storyteller. As a mom, photos are extremely important to me. Life moves so quickly, and our babies grow way too fast! Having memories and photos to look back on is something that everyone can appreciate and cherish.
